How To Start a Social Media Marketing Agency | Step By Step
My name is Faheem Banhon and I am a self-made millionaire, and not self-made in the sense that I had daddy's credit card or my family's connections in the city. I mean that in a sense that at the age of 18 to support myself and my single mom. This business was an agency; seven years later, if I lost it all, I would start an agency once again. I wouldn't start an online clothing store or start drop shipping or invest in NFTs or any of the other noise that you hear out there on YouTube these days. So the video I'm gonna present to you today isn't only just a step-by-step guide on how to make money, This video is the exact advice I'd give to myself if I was 16 again. So let's go ahead and get started. Now here is a quick overview of the things we'll be covering, and take you right through finding clients, getting paid, and finally delivering your services. Now a quick bit of housekeeping before we start. Every time I film these videos, I get comments from people who can't believe this is possible. Even though feel free, I've literally been documenting every single thing all the way from sending crappy proposals and signing my first client, to hitting my first 10K months in my agency, hitting my first 100K months in my agency, and so on and so forth. But as I said, there are some negative individuals who I generally don't have time for, but some people who just don't have the confidence in themselves to succeed. So periodically in this video, you will see a slide like this. Now this will be your warning and my chance to preempt that negative belief you have in the back of your head. So let's get into it. Now I'm guessing if you searched for this video, you'd have heard of SMMA previously. For example, a public relations agency. And you'll be right in saying that if you wanna promote your new artists, you will either hire a public relations expert and bring them in-house, Now for most companies the latter choice is the obvious one, because when you are hiring someone full-time, but you're also making the decision to pay them if they're sick, to contribute towards their pension. I mean, even if they get pregnant, Now in contrast, if you hire an agency, you can fire them whenever you want, and you know the exact services that they're incentivized to stay up to date and know what's in trend and what's working that offers a service to another company so that way they don't have to hire one or potentially even multiple, multiple people full-time. Now let's talk about how we actually start an agency Please, it's important. I want you to close your eyes. Gently lean your head back. Now take a deep breath. Keep your eyes closed. Now have a couple more seconds. Think of something abstract or forward-thinking. Got it? Well, there you go. You have an agency. then what you just did. as a business without even registering. as a sole trader. and that was it. to formally get registered. But if you're watching this video just to start making money online from the comfort of your own home, Ladies and gentlemen here are your first self-limiting belief, and that's that you're too young And here's the extremely funny thing, about offering their services in the house, or more likely working for another agency. So all you're doing is you're just cutting out the middleman. or you'd start your own. you're going out and you're starving yourself. And later in this video, to your advantage in the agency business. Cool. Now, of course, most SMMAs offer, well, social media marketing services, and astronomical results to your clients. And surprise, surprise, that's what my own agency, and Facebook advertising primarily. any service you want as an agency. like SEO or content creation. I said it was a content creation agency, thousands of dollars a month by doing services such as managing sales teams, I have friends who've done this, making multiple But for the purpose of this video, we're gonna be looking at Facebook advertising. It's time Every business either provides goods or services and makes more money. So if you're thinking of providing social media marketing Let's even go ahead and stick with that theme for the next section of this video. to do quickly and cheaply. Now, here are three different forms of lead generation. Now in this example, I've used social media marketing. That's some big, big hack. That means that you can reach out to them independently for all the jobs on this list. You can use this as a way to find job listings and find job posts. I should say. And then from there, you can just reach out to them outside of Upwork. For example, one of the jobs posted here is Lynxes jewelry website, and at the bottom, there's a LinkedIn email address where you can get in touch with the owner without using any Upwork credits. Next, it's time to use Instagram, and it's a great way to find niche brands. Once you suggest Instagram, it can spit back some similar suggestions, and I'll show you what that process looks like So if you're working in the wearable sports tech niche, probably don't try this with Fitbit. reasonable to work with a boutique agency. First, you find them and you follow them. to and work with. Now, these are examples of distressed purchases. that's with funeral plan providers. And what these businesses do is they actually sort of sell you a set funeral plan that allows you to pay for your funeral ahead of time, which takes picking a niche. The ones that are already running Google Adverts are great because they're showing intent to market themselves digitally. So let's get in touch with one of them. Now in the case of the Upwork client, I gave you an example earlier, her email was actually in the footer of her website. It's called Snov.io and allows you to search through a website for matching email addresses. I'm sending this to the funeral service plan provider and running it through that right now It starts with rapport and that's where you make the client feel comfortable Finally, it is time for the close. Businesses hate hiring people. But trust me here, the number of agency owners I see mess up and trip up on this very crucial part of the process depresses me at this point, A couple of days go by, and the client still ignores them. And then a few days after that, the client comes back and says, "Hey, I've had second thoughts." And this is why it's so important to get paid while you're still on the call. Of course, this is possible through bank transfer, but the easiest way to do this stuff is 100% my big recommendation is to set up Stripe or potentially even when you go to send the invoice, it is time to buckle up because this is probably going to be one of the most in-depth trainings you've watched on how to start a social media marketing agency in 2023 there's a lot of things that have changed I'm from someone who's been in the space for close to four years at this point this 2023 compared to 2022 is probably the year with most changes changes that you have to absolutely make if you are to have success with social media marketing agency and the reason why I say that is because there's more people that have entered the space in the past year than any other year and this means that it's more crowded than ever which if you're gonna do what everyone has been doing for the past one to three years you're probably not going to have much success like 99 of people who try to start a social media marketing agency but it creates an incredible opportunity an opportunity to go left when everyone is going right an opportunity to come to the market with an incredible offer that completely shakes it up and you tap into a blue ocean While most people are stuck in the old way of doing things tapping into a red bloody and saturated Ocean and the reason why this is going to be an insanely in-depth training is because we're not only going to be talking about how to sign clients for your agency I'm literally going to be handing you over the strategy that books us 40 to 50 Millions a day for my businesses but I'm also going to be sharing with you the technical tangible skill of getting results for your clients so you lose confidence on your sales goals so that you can actually keep your clients for a very long time and so that you attract very high ticket clients if that wasn't enough we're also going to be talking about what is changing in the SMA space what you need to be aware of what mistakes to watch out for and what adjustments you need to make this year to make sure that you haven't seen success so without further Ado let's get into what's actually changing so let's actually start with the changes and if you're new to the social media marketing agency space then great because you're definitely not going to be making these mistakes and if you have been in the SME space for a while or even running your agency you can fix and adjust these things so you have an incredible 2023 ahead now one of the key things that is going to be changing in 2023 is this whole idea of relying on contractors for the longest time the way most people have run is social media marketing agency is by delegating the service completely to a contractor in fact the whole idea was you come into the space and you pick a service this and you just delegate it to a contractor while you focus on signing clients and that is no longer going to fly for a number of reasons the first and main one is that this strategy is completely saturated there's way more people now starting an SMA than actual contractors who have been in the space for a while know how to deliver an incredible service for clients not only that but the a-player contractors want to work with players here you have a lot of people coming into the space with really nothing to offer they don't have any experience they don't have any expertise and everyone wants the top contractors but the contractors have hundreds of different offers not only that but if they were to onboard you they wouldn't have your full attention and if that wasn't enough you're putting the success of your business in the hands of a completely external third-party person for whom you're not even the number one priority they want to have the confidence of having the tangible and Technical skills of being able to deliver results for clients without having to rely on contractors most people spend one to two months hiring a contractor when they could have put that time strategically to learning the skill which I'll talk about in just a second the next big thing in 2023 for social media marketing agencies is transitioning away from selling service and instead selling a solution so most agencies out there most Freelancers out there they focus on selling a service, for example, they sell Facebook ads the problem with that is that a service is just a simple commodity there are hundreds of thousands of people offering the exact same service so there's very little differentiation not only that but it's not a very irresistible offer You're simply offering a service and what that leads to is a price-competitive market where everyone is competing on price simply because there's no differentiation on the actual offer this person sells Facebook ads for 1200 a month but then this person in a third world country you can do the same thing for 400 bucks and so you're just purely competing on price and not on the value you cannot command High ticket, retainers and the fourth thing that is changing is the complete shift towards things online towards e-commerce now I'm not saying that local businesses don't work I see a lot of people arguing you know between local business and e-commerce and why e-commerce is not the way to go or local business is not the way to go and the reality is they both work now if you give me a choice let's just say you have a Finish Line right and you have a choice between a Fiat and a Ferrari I'm probably gonna pick the Ferrari right and so both will get you over the Finish Line it's just what is the best vehicle to get you to that finish line and so if I'm going into that race I'm picking the Ferrari and that is what e-commerce is here now if you look at local businesses there's a lot of limitations when it comes to being a service provider especially if you're looking to onboard incredible clients who have the biggest impact in their lives and also grow your business and make a lot of money the reason why that is because first of all local business is geographically limited you're limited by your geography and so you cannot sign clients from anywhere in the world and it limits the pool of clients that you can choose from with e-commerce I love the fact that you can reach out to any brand out there in the world because you want to work with them so it doesn't limit you geographically and we'll live in a world where Financial Freedom is not enough you won't have time and location freedom and working with local businesses limits that not only that but when you're helping local business the reality is it's a very hard sell if you're selling them online advertising why because they have a lot of other traffic sources and they don't have to rely on online advertising they have Street traffic they have geographical limitations right so for example if you arrive at a city and you have a gym five minutes away from your house and another one 30 minutes away from your house it doesn't matter how much better the other gym is you're probably going to pick the one that is closest to you A lot of it also works by referrals my point is that online advertising is not a massive necessity if you look at Ecom Brands though these Founders understand that they absolutely must have online advertising in place because until they have a predictable stream of customers pretty much on autopilot and they know how much they can spend to acquire a customer meaning they can put one dollar in and get three back they don't have a business if they don't have online advertising unless they have like an incredibly viral product which is very very rare it's going to be very hard for them to get eyeballs they're not on a street they don't get referrals they don't have geographical limitations they don't exist unless they get eyeballs if that wasn't enough your value is always capped for example let's take a restaurant or let's take a dentist they have a maximum number of clients they can have they have a maximum number of tables they can fill and if you're getting them way over that well you're probably gonna have to stop your services unless they buy another building and hire a bunch of Staff it's very hard to scale the value that you're adding to them and that results in your ability to scale your income with that company that you get from that company are also can I could go on and on but as opposed to what you're seeing in just a second with e-commerce with local businesses you can't charge them based on the the value that you're adding to them why because we're optimizing for leads we're not optimizing for someone to take out their card and pay for something you're optimizing for a lead which is someone that shows the interest that maybe shows up at that local business and that person could be translated into money but ultimately it is down to the client to transform that lead into Cash collected for example if I'm running ads for a restaurant the way you'd get people into the restaurant is by offering them maybe a free dessert or you know a free drink if you bring someone else for example if I'm running ads to a dentist the way you can get them into the clinic is by offering them a free teeth clean but it's going to be down to the 10 dentists to then upsell them into something that is paid maybe it is whitening or maybe some retainers whatever it is look at the end of the day I've just given you a bunch of reasons why local businesses are just not the best vehicle to get you over that finish line and someone could argue for the pros of local businesses and there are Pros don't get me wrong but what no one can argue against is the fact that everyone is currently or is going to be selling something online in the next 10 to 15 years whether it's a service product information or themselves as a personal brand and all these people want one single thing which is growth and so if everyone is currently or it's going to be selling something online and most people simply just don't have the know-how or time to master this skill because most Ecom Founders are great at building a vision and building a product and building a team around their Vision but they just don't know how to acquire customers predictably and profitably than the most valuable people in the current economy are those that can grow things online they are the rainmakers and without them, there's no business so I'm not saying local businesses don't work right can you make money yes right the same way that you can be money with anything if you invest enough time into it but we're looking at what is the best vehicle right now and also what has the most longevity I feel like a lot of people going into the online space think about them now right what can make them money right now don't get me wrong going down the e-commerce route does but they don't think about the longevity the reality that no one can argue against is that last year e-commerce grew more than in the past 10 years and it's only going to grow in cretendo now in 20 years are there not going to be any local businesses no there's still going to be a segment of businesses that are local but the vast majority of businesses are going online and learning that but you have new massive economies entering the online space like the Creator economy the info product economy the e-commerce economy getting bigger and better and so yes you can make money with local business working with a few local business lines for very low ticket retainers selling them a service that is just a commodity and you're purely competing against everyone on price or you can learn tangible technical skills that people need desperately right now and are going to need desperately in 10 to 15 years and become one of the most valuable people in the current economy of today which This brings me to the main and final thing that is changing in smma in comparison to this past you know four to five years and this year which is the need for having tangible and technical skills I feel like a lot of people coming into the space or if you've heard about this online business are realizing the importance of it but the reality is when you ask most people that are entering the space or even people that have signed their first line and you ask them what is your value apart from just delegating to a contractor and using a sales tactic to get a client on board who's going to leave you after your minimum retention most people just won't be able to answer that question so many people are coming into the space focusing on making a quick Buck without focusing on becoming valuable and by default they don't make a quick Buck nor do they become valuable the reality is most of these people never sign clients and the ones that do maybe sign one two three clients but what recessions do like the incoming one it looks at the market and it only leaves standing the most valuable people they rise to the top the most valuable people rise to the top and there's absolutely no space for the people that are not valuable so that's what's going to be changing with social media marketing agencies in 2023 before we get into the tangible technical of how to sign clients and learn how to deliver incredible results for your clients let's talk a little bit about the results that you can expect effect by implementing this new approach to first of all when you become valuable and you learn Technical and tangible skills that you can add to your clients your sales become completely effortless why because they become mainly value-driven and the thing is with B2B sales business to business sales meaning you're talking to big companies that are making you know
